Background: Spiritual health as a fundamental element makes human life meaningful. In fact, it improves the quality of life and diseases prevention. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between spiritual well-being and quality of life in type II diabetic patients referring to Yazd Diabetes Clinic, Yazd, Iran, during 2017.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2017. The study population was composed of 600 patients aged 40-74 years referring to diabetes clinic. Data were collected through demographic information, spiritual well-being, and quality of life questionnaire for diabetic patients. Data were analyzed using SPSS (version 24) software through descriptive statistics, regression, and Pearson correlation.
Results: The mean score of spiritual health and quality of life among the investigated subjects were 81.34 ± 14.39 and 79.34 ± 11.02, respectively. There was a positive and significant correlation between spiritual wellbeing score and quality of life (r=0.69, P=0.02). There was a significant difference between educational variables with spiritual health (P=0.02) and quality of life (P=0.00).
Conclusion: The obtained results of the study were indicative of the beneficial role of the spiritual aspect of health on the quality of life of type 2 diabetic patients in Yazd. Considering the religious potential of Yazd, planners of the health sector should pay attention to this issue in their care plans.
