Abstract
Introduction: The presence of type 2 diabetes in the elderly has led to decreased resilience among their family caregivers. This study aimed to determine the effect of an intervention program based on the Coop Care Model on the resilience of family caregivers of elderly people with type II diabetes in Iran.
Methods: In this clinical trial, 90 family caregivers of elderly individuals with type II diabetes in Iran were recruited and randomly assigned to an intervention group (n=45) and a control group (n=45). Caregivers in the intervention group participated in six training sessions based on the Coop Care Model. Follow-ups were also conducted by the researcher through WhatsApp groups for one month. The resilience of participants was assessed using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21 through independent and paired t-tests.
Results: The mean resilience scores of caregivers in the intervention and control groups before the study were 22.93 ± 4.31 and 22.12 ± 3.24, respectively, showing no statistically significant difference (P = 0.764). However, three months after the intervention, the mean resilience scores were 34.76 ± 4.36 and 22.19 ± 2.28 in the intervention and control groups, respectively, indicating a statistically significant difference (P = 0.003).
Conclusion: Based on the results, the intervention program grounded in the Coop Care Model effectively improved the resilience levels of family caregivers of elderly individuals with type II diabetes in Iran.
