Introduction: Psychological approaches can play an important role in better controlling blood glucose levels. These interventions help enhance treatment adherence by improving lifestyle, increasing motivation, and reducing anxiety. Accordingly, the present study aimed to examine the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on worry, sleep quality, and illness adaptation among patients with diabetes referred to medical centers in Ahvaz.
Materials and Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test as well as experimental and control groups selected through purposive sampling. From the diabetic patients referred to medical centers in Ahvaz, 30 individuals were randomly assigned to the experimental (n=15) and control (n=15) groups. Participants in the experimental group received CBT across eight weekly sessions. The instruments included standardized scales assessing worry, sleep quality, and illness adaptation. Data were analyzed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) in SPSS version 26.
Results: A significant difference was found between the post-test mean scores of worry, sleep quality, and illness adaptation in the experimental and control groups, with the experimental group showing greater improvement (p < 0.005).
Conclusion: The findings indicate that cognitive behavioral therapy has a significant positive effect on reducing worry and improving sleep quality and illness adaptation in patients with diabetes referred to medical centers in Ahvaz.
