Introduction: Adolescence is one of the most critical periods of life, and if a teenager faces health problems, it can be a challenge for all members of the family. Attention to spiritual needs is among the components of a healthy life. However, adolescents with chronic diseases take inefficient attitudes. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the relationship between spiritual attitude and ineffective attitude in diabetic adolescents in hospitals affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran.

Materials and Method: This descriptive and analytic study was performed among 92 adolescents with diabetes admitted to the hospitals affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2015. The subjects were selected using convenience sampling method. Data were collected using a questionnaire about religious and inefficient attitudes. The study population was observed and evaluated for 3 months. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics and correlation coefficients in SPSS software, version 20.

Results: Based on the results, 47 and 45 participants were male and female, respectively. The mean ages of females and males were 16.84 and 15.56 years old, respectively. In this study, most of the participants had finished either guidance school (40%) or high school (45%). The spiritual attitude of diabetic adolescents was moderate and inefficient attitude was more. There was an indirect relationship between spiritual attitudes and ineffective thinking in adolescents with diabetes. There was no significant difference between genders in terms of spiritual and ineffective attitude.

Conclusion: Spiritual attitude had an indirect relationship with inefficient attitude, and as a result reduces the level of anxiety in diabetic adolescents. In fact, spiritual attitude positively affects the inefficient attitude in this population. Therefore, it is recommended to consider programs in diabetes centers to improve the spiritual attitude in this sensitive group.
